New York Operators Continue To Fight Sales Tax

ALBANY, N.Y. — The Limousine, Bus, and Taxi Operators of New York are encouraging operators to continue their efforts to repeal the sales tax on limousine services. In a meeting today led by David Bastian of Towne Livery, Bastian aimed to galvanize the message to operators that they should take the time now, while the Assembly Members and Senators have returned back to their districts, to reach out to them and let them know how the sales tax has hurt their business.
As the two Bills move through the Senate and Assembly, operators and associations should contact their local Senators and Assembly Members to encourage them to sign on as a sponsor or co-sponsor to show their support for the bills.
Senate Bill S4920, introduced by Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-60th District, has now moved into the Finance Committee. And Bill A7724, introduced by Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak, D-143rd D-143rd Disctrict is currently in Ways and Means.
A petition has been set up for Assembly Bill A7724 to make it easier for the industry to send the message of repeal to Albany. The petition to repeal the sales tax is up and running, and is arranged so all the members of the Ways and Means Committee in the Assembly will receive an e-mail every time someone signs the petition.
A coalition has also been created to help repeal the tax, called United New York, that has a contact list of Senate Finance Committee and Assembly Ways and Means members. There is also a Facebook page for United New York for supporters to join.
Bastian urges everyone in the industry to continue to support the elimination of the New York state sales tax on limousine services, saying, “The bottom line is, when a Senator or Assembly Member signs on as a sponsor or co-sponsor, they are raising their hand and saying yes they support this, which will mean a lot if it goes to a vote on the floor. The goal is to get as many Senators and Assembly Members to show their support right now so we have a running start going into the January session.”
